A design patent is a good tool to protect the outer appearance of a product. A patent is granted under the applicant’s responsibility for 25 years without substantive examination and can be objected in court if it lacks worldwide novelty. In our experience, this way of protection has been used to protect food products packaging, labels, car designs, form of bottles, and other containers. A patent is usually granted rather quickly, within about half a year or sooner.

In Ukraine, a national or conventional application can be filed. International applications under the Hague Agreement are protected without direct filing in Ukraine.
